Al-Akhdam - Yemen The Al-Akhdam (also known as the Muhamasheen, meaning "the marginalized ones") are a socially segregated community in Yemen that faces systematic discrimination akin to an untouchable caste. They are considered to be at the very bottom of Yemen's social hierarchy and endure severe marginalization in housing, employment, education, and access to humanitarian aid . 🏛️ Identity and Origins The Al-Akhdam are an Arabic-speaking, predominantly Muslim ethnic group . However, they are physically distinguished by darker skin and, in some descriptions, Veddoid-like features .
