Death of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar  Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, widely revered as Babasaheb and the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, passed away on December 6, 1956, at the age of 65. His death, observed annually as Mahaparinirvana Diwas (a Buddhist term signifying ultimate nirvana), marked the end of a life dedicated to social justice, equality, and the upliftment of marginalized communities, particularly Dalits. Ambedkar had converted to Buddhism just two months earlier, on October 14, 1956, in a historic mass ceremony in Nagpur, where nearly 500,000 followers joined him in renouncing Hinduism.
